About

Richard S. Dillard brings over four decades of distinguished service across the United States Marine Corps, the United States Air Force (Retired Reserve) and a wide range of Fortune 100, mid-market and small businesses. His career spans a remarkably diverse set of global industries, where he has consistently demonstrated leadership in business transformation, operational excellence and strategic program management. His expertise includes leadership development, culture fostering, team building and business agility.

Throughout his career, Richard has successfully led two companies—one of which he built from the ground up—through significant growth. He has played a pivotal role in advancing digital transformation initiatives for precision-driven organizations such as Sandia National Laboratories, and has led business and IT modernization efforts for high-performance enterprises including MSX International, Cardinal Health, Savvis, and the United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM). These efforts have resulted in more agile digital workplaces, stronger organizational cultures, and enhanced business effectiveness.

Professionally, Richard holds credentials for Project Management Professional (PMP), IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL®) 4 Foundation, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Government Practitioner, and SAP Certified Associate - SAP Activate Project Manager. Previously, he earned a provisional Black Belt certification in Quality Function Deployment (QFD), an Affiliate Consultant designation with Human Synergistics International®, a certification for Leadership and Service programs at the Deliver and Develop Levels from AchieveGlobal, and he holds two Black Belt certificates in Six Sigma.

Richard’s unwavering commitment to personal excellence has been a cornerstone of his professional success and the success of those he serves. In addition to this book, he is the author of several works on leadership and organizational culture. Beyond his professional achievements, Richard finds his greatest joy in spending time with his wife of over 30 years, their four daughters, and two grandchildren.

The Architect’s Postscript (Part 3 of 3): Smashing the Monuments
Changing the Architecture of Survival The 'Architecture of Avoidance' (the guillotine) has been completely dismantled and removed, its footprint erased. The completed system proves that 'Freedom From' dysfunction enables the 'Freedom For' excellence. The transition fulfilled. We established in the previous post...

The Architect’s Postscript (Part 2 of 3): Campaigns Fought in Private
Navigating the Struggle Within The menacing shadow of the old 'Architecture of Avoidance' (the guillotine) still looms on the left, standing adjacent to the nascent construct of a living leadership model (the collaborative work). In the foreground, the vintage brass compass guides the architect’s hand, symbolizing the necessity of inner transformation before external systems can be unmade. Inside Work First In Part 1, the ask was simple to state and brutal to accept: step out of the shadows,...

The Architect's Postscript (Part 1 of 3): Fair Warning on the Architecture of Avoidance
A Decisive Flash from the Forensics A lone man in a trench coat stands on a precarious edge overlooking a dramatic, futuristic city landscape. To his left, a wall of fragmented mirrors creates distorted, monstrous reflections. To his right, a massive, monolithic building features a keyhole-shaped aperture, radiating a brilliant golden light. Now that we’ve closed the book on The Architect's Series, we are confronted by an active transition. The satisfying resolution to Alex’s narrative arc in...
